Seriously, I should know better than to watch the news. Don’t know what came over me tonight to make me watch it. I used to watch the news, then I very recently stopped watching because I really found myself being cynical when I was watching it. But tonight, even though I am over tired (which means not coping quite as well as usual), I watched the news! For you, I’m sorry, but it means you get a blog post that is just a little bit of a rant. Hope you find it amusing, or helpful, or something….
In the past I could usually watch the news and laugh at the ridiculousness of most of it, I could joke and make comments. It just keeps getting worse and worse though.
Please don’t believe 90% of what you see on the news. Please.
They tend to spin it whatever way they want to, whether it makes any sense or not. I’ve blogged before about the ‘media hype’ around organic foods ~ that was in 2009 (guess the last time the TV News got so silly I couldn’t stand it).
Don’t Buy An Electric Car
What got me tonight was a story on electric cars. The story was talking about ‘how we should get more and more people into full (not hybrid), electric cars. Green house gas emissions are too much, and we need electric cars!”
Are you kidding me? Just last week the story was about the “Site C” Dam in British Columbia. We need to build this new dam to support our electrical needs. Who cares if we flood hectares of land, cause species to go extinct, ruin our land, ruin the lives of certain communities, WE NEED MORE HYDRO POWER!!!”
So we go from, “We don’t have enough Hydro Power! We need to turn off our lights and conserve energy! We are using too much electricity” ~ to “Lets take the biggest user of power (the car), and turn it electric too! Yes, we are already short of electricity, so short that we are willing to destroy our province, but lets get these hundreds of thousands of people into cars that use electricity!”
Don’t forget, that when you are charging your electric car, you should put an LED light in your garage, and then turn it off so you can save electricity !!!
Are you following here? Can you see how asinine this is? And people fall for it?
I agree it would probably be a good idea to begin to use something other than gasoline/fossil fuels to run our cars. However, the idea that it must be electric power is ridiculous.
It is all about the money, there are sources of free power out there. Power that will run cars cleanly, cheaply (or free), that won’t do any harm to our planet. The only harm it would do is to the wallets of certain people that run most of our planet. Don’t fall for it.
Don’t buy an electric car ~ it will just be trading one bad idea for another bad idea.

I myself am not opposed to the idea of electric cars, I just think they’re not quite ready for mainstream use. There is probably more harm being caused to the environment from production of electric cars and all the infrastructure, not to mention battery waste and disposal. There is also the issue of affordability, not everyone can afford and electric car.. heck even a new gas car for that matter.
Perhaps when innovation catches up with these issues I *may* consider investing in an electric car.
